Our Story
Dr. M.A. Dawood Batcha founded the RDB College after his personal experiences with education in his village. He realised the discrepancies in the number that pursued higher education, especially among girls. He comprehended that this was due to the economic and cultural climate of the village, which meant that many students were unable to afford the fees to relocate to a city.
The nearest college, at the time, was in another city and Dr. M.A. Dawood Batcha himself had to go to Trichy to study. Particularly with girls, the parents had an apprehension towards sending them out of the locality which hindered their opportunity for higher education. Resulting in girls tending to be less educated than the boys in the village. He felt the solution was to open a more affordable institution closer to these surrounding rural areas.
In 1997, having gained experience in business and education, Dr. M.A. Dawood Batcha revisited the idea of improving and advancing education in his hometown which led to him setting up the Dawood Batcha Educational and Charitable Trust in the same year. The following year, in 1998, the Rajagiri Dawood Batcha College of Arts and Science was opened.
Now, 20 years later, the trust has expanded to include RDB Institute of Management, RDB College of Education, RDB Teacher Training Institute, RDB Matriculation Higher Secondary School, RDB School of Nursing in Papanasam. His goal of educating and helping women progress is being achieved with already around 5000 girls having received higher education and successfully going on to obtain a job from inception.
Now, students from the surrounding rural towns of Rajagiri, Ayampettai, Vilathur, Kumabakonam and more are able to pursue higher education. This has undoubtedly contributed to the flourishment of his hometown and the expansion of the aspirations that students have not only for themselves but also for their families.
